Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits: The Recipe That Started It All
Welcome to the very first recipe on Bobbi Jo’s! It is only fitting that our kickoff post is a doggie treat dedicated to the sweet girl who inspired this whole adventure.
Back when Bobbi Jo was just a puppy, she had to go through a series of hip surgeries. During her long recovery, she became my official kitchen shadow. To keep her spirits up while she healed, we started making homemade treats together. These Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits were an instant hit with my fluffy Border Collie and Newfoundland mix, and they are still a wonderful, wholesome reward to bake for your own four-legged best friend.

The secret to these biscuits is getting the right dough consistency. Depending on your liquid of choice, it can get a bit sticky, so don’t be afraid to use a little extra flour until it rolls out perfectly. You want these to bake up nice, hard, and golden brown for that satisfying crunch dogs love!
Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups flour (plus additional flour for kneading the dough)
- ⅔ cup pumpkin puree
- 3 tablespoons peanut butter
- 2 eggs (beaten)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 – 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- ⅓ cup buttermilk (you can easily substitute this with regular milk or water)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine the flour, pumpkin, peanut butter, beaten eggs, salt, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
- Add liquid (buttermilk, milk, or water) slowly to the mixture until a solid dough forms. Be careful not to add too much at once, or the dough will become very sticky.
- Knead and adjust: If your dough is too sticky, simply add additional flour a little at a time until the dough dries enough that it can be rolled out without sticking to your rolling pin.
- Roll and cut: Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. Use a small biscuit cutter or your favorite bone-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the treats.
- Bake: Place the cutouts on a cookie sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes. They should be golden brown and hard to the touch. If they are still soft, cook a little longer as needed.
Storage Tips
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for maximum freshness.
- These can also be safely stored at room temperature for 3 to 4 days.
