Fishy Pumpkin Pupcakes

Today we are celebrating Jackson’s 9th doggie birthday. Jackson came to live with us last year. It was either September or October. I can’t remember exactly. My husband’s uncle passed away and we said we would take care of his dog, Jackson. We call him Jack most of the time. He is a border collie mix. We have a lot of experience with that breed of dog. This is Jack’s first birthday party even though he is 9 years old. The dogs enjoyed these pupcakes. They are simple to make. Here is how you do it:

Bobbi Jo trying a pupcake.

Doggie Pumpkin Pie

This is a normal size pumpkin pie that is dog friendly. It is perfect for a Thanksgiving get together with family that has dogs. We have 5 dogs so that is half almost half a pie.

Ingredients

Pie Crust
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 tablespoons water (may need more)

Pie Filling
One 15 oz. can pumpkin (Make sure 100% pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling)
3 tablespoons peanut butter (Make sure it doesn’t have sugar substitutes in it.)
1 egg

Directions
For pie crust
Mix together all ingredients. Use your hands to mix the dough well. If the dough it too dry add a tablespoon of water at a time until the dough is workable (Easy to shape into a ball and knead).
If dough gets too wet add a little flour. Use your best judgment. The dogs will love it!
Grease pie plate with olive oil.
Place ball of dough in pie plate.
With hands press the dough into the pie plate until it covers the entire plate.
With a fork, poke holes in bottom of crust.
You can also crimp the edges with a fork it you want.
Place in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
Remove after 10 minutes.

For Pie Filling
Mix everything together in a mixing bowl.
Once pie crust has baked for 10 minutes pour filling into crust.
Then return to oven for 30 minutes.
Once 30 minutes have passed remove from oven and let cool.
Then share with all your doggie friends.
For the whipped topping I used Plain Greek Yogurt.
I just placed a dollop on each slice of pie. I have 1 dog that can’t do dairy, therefore, I did not put it on the entire pie.

Note – when I make this again I will add a little more water to the crust so it won’t be as crumbly around the edges. I will take more time when pressing the crust into the pie plate to make sure I get all the edges over the lip of the pie plate. The crust is thick and crunchy like a Milkbone dog biscuit. It is easier to cut with knife than with a pie cutter or spatula. If you have a small dog it may help to cut the crust into smaller pieces.

Bobbi Jo’s first recipe

This is the first recipe posted on Bobbi Jo’s YouTube channel. She loved learning how to make her very own dog treats and sharing them with her siblings.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

Ingredients

2 3/4 cup flour (additional flour for kneading dough)
2/3 cup pumpkin
3 tablespoons peanut butter
2 eggs (beaten)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 – 2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/3 cup buttermilk (or may substitute with another liquid such as milk or water) Preheat over 350 degrees.
Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
Dough should form.
Add liquid of choice to mixture until dough forms.
Don’t add too much or it will be very sticky.
If you happen to make it too sticky just add additional flour until the dough dries where it can be rolled out without sticking to rolling pin.
Roll dough about 1/2 inch thick and then cut with small biscuit cutter or cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheet and cook in preheated over for 40 – 45 mins.
They should be a golden brown and hard. Cook a little longer if needed.
I store in the fridge after making but can be stored at room temp for 3 – 4 days.
