The Recipe: Bacon Chicken Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats

Prep time: 15 minutes | Bake time: 40 minutes | Yields: Varies based on cookie cutter size

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1/4 cup chopped chicken (cooked)
  • 2 tablespoons plain peanut butter (Important: Check the label to ensure it is 100% xylitol-free!)
  • 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 can plain pumpkin puree (Not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups flour (plus a little extra for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prep the Oven & Bacon: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the 4 slices of bacon on the stovetop until crispy. Once done, let them cool and chop or crumble them into small bits.
  2. Start the Dough: While the bacon is cooking, grab a large mixing bowl and mix together the 2 eggs and 4 cups of flour.
  3. Combine the Flavors: Slowly add in the chopped chicken, peanut butter, Greek yogurt, salt, cinnamon, ginger, pumpkin, and the crumbled bacon. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Adjust the Texture: After everything is mixed, pour in the 1/4 cup of water to make the dough workable.
  5. Knead: Flour a clean, flat surface and place the dough on it. Knead the dough for about 4 minutes, adding small amounts of extra flour as needed. You are looking for a dry dough that is not sticky to the touch.
  6. Roll & Cut: Roll the dough out flat. Use your favorite bone-shaped cookie cutters or biscuit cutters to stamp out the treats.
  7. Bake: Place the cutouts on a non-stick cookie sheet (or a parchment-lined baking sheet). Bake for 40 minutes, or until the treats are golden brown and crisp.
  8. Cool & Serve: Remove the treats from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, share them with your doggies and watch them go crazy!

Storage Tip: Because these treats contain meat and fresh ingredients, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze them for longer-lasting rewards.
