Setting up the LongPlus® Smart Bird Feeder is a breeze, but there are a few mounting tips to keep in mind. While we initially strapped it to a tree, this method isn’t ideal since squirrels can easily access it. The camera delivers clear video, and the solar panel’s long cord allows it to stay in sunlight even if the feeder is shaded, ensuring it’s always charged. However, the AI technology is a letdown. After three months, it struggled to correctly identify even common birds like Northern Cardinals. If you’re okay with identifying birds manually and just want a good-quality camera, this is a solid choice. You’ll need the Longplus app to view footage, but the interface isn’t the most intuitive. The option to use an SD card for storage is handy. In humid Southern climates, cleaning can be a chore due to the camera’s design, which makes it difficult to disassemble for thorough cleaning. Despite this, the camera and solar panel continue to perform well after a year.

Careboda

The Careboda Bird Feeder is straightforward to set up with clear instructions. It uses the Vico Home app, which is user-friendly. The AI performs better here, accurately identifying birds most of the time, though it occasionally mistakes pets for people. We mounted it on a fence, where it attracted raccoons and squirrels. The built-in motion light and alarm help deter nocturnal critters, with the alarm being effective against raccoons but not squirrels. Cleaning the camera is challenging, though a small brush helps. 

Wosport

The WOSPORTS Bird Feeder comes with various attachments, including two types of hummingbird feeders, fruit forks, and a jelly container. Since the summer heat here can spoil fresh food and attract ants, we only use it for seeds. The solar panel is integrated into the roof, so you don’t need to find a separate spot for it. The AI technology is reliable, and the feeder works well with the Vico Home app. It’s been in use for about four months with good results. The alarm system with lights and sound and the option to set a sleep schedule are nice features. Cleaning is easier than with some other models due to its design, although removing the camera can still be tricky. This feeder is designed to be mounted on a pole. We used the Ottsuls Bird Feeder Pole for this. It works great.

Vatjubi

The Vatjubi Bird Feeder is compact and comes with a solar panel, though we mainly use it for seeds rather than fruit or jelly. It can be mounted on a pole, which makes repositioning easier. The AI performs well, thanks to the Vico Home app. Cleaning can be difficult due to its compact size, but an SD card slot for video storage is convenient. The solar charger works well, though we bought a separate wrap-around solar charger for easier mounting. Conclusion

All four feeders offer similar features like sleep mode, alarms, and good video quality. All of the feeders recorded video in short clips (up to 20 seconds), which can be stitched together with video editing software. Cleaning is a common challenge, with larger models being slightly easier to manage. Over time, white cameras may discolor from mildew, necessitating thorough cleaning. The Vico Home app stands out for better bird identification compared to the Longplus app. For ease of use and good AI performance, the Wosport camera is our top pick due to its built-in solar panel, neat design, and reliable app. These feeders also serve as effective security cameras, though visibility at night can be limited without additional lighting.
